ST. AUGUSTINE –
Charlene Nowotny scored two goals and assisted on another as No. 14 (United Soccer Coaches Division II) Flagler College rolled to a 5-0 victory over Florida Southern College in non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Saints Field.
The Saints improved to 3-0 and won their fourth consecutive home opener. Florida Southern dropped to 3-2.
Flagler scored all five goals in the second half.
Sara Sandberg put the Saints on the board in the 54
th minute when she scored on a give-and-go with Nowotny. Sandberg added two assists later in the match.
In the 56
th minute,
Annie Habeeb was tripped up in the box by a Florida Southern player to set up a penalty kick. Habeeb converted to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
Nowotny scored the next two goals over 2-minute, 21-second span to increase the Flagler lead.
Maria Castorino Mujica capped the scoring with a goal in the 89
th minute.
Sarah-Lisa Dubel turned in her third clean sheet in as many matches. She collected four saves. Jenny Staten tallied five saves for the Mocs.
Flagler out-shot Florida Southern 16-5, including holding a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. There were 21 fouls committed with the Moccasins being whistled for 13.
Flagler hosts No. 19 Rollins College on Saturday (Sept. 21) at 5 p.m. at Saints Field.
