WINTER PARK, Fla. – No. 24 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Rollins College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College, 5-2 and 9-0, Wednesday evening at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.
Rollins extended its winning streak to 12 games and improved to 32-5. Flagler dropped to 23-16.
In the opener, a two-run single by Ashley Worrell in the second inning gave Rollins a lead it would not relinquish.
Maria Kappos hit a run-scoring single in the third to cut the Tars lead in half.
Lindsay Gehring led off the fifth with a single, advanced to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly to push the Rollins lead to 3-1.
Kappos hit a solo home run in the sixth to get the Saints back to within a run, 3-2.
Grace Street came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. She hit a single to left, which plated two more runs.
Worrell (16-3) allowed two runs on three hits for Rollins. She fanned eight with three walks.
Jordan Davis collected three singles and scored a run. Sarah Harrison added two singles and scored two runs.
Kyra Gipson surrendered five runs on nine hits to get the loss for the Saints. She fanned five and walked four.
Kappos had all three Flagler hits, including the home run.
In game two, the Tars sent nine batters to the plate in each of the first two innings. Talia Kentoffio hit a two-run double to key a four-run first and Cynthia Whitty hit a two-run single in a four-run second.
Street (5-1) tossed a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts.
Kentoffio went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs batted in, and three runs scored. Abigail Sexton hit two singles and drove in three runs. Davis collected two singles and scored a run.
Alayna Savaglio (3-5) allowed seven runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. She walked five batters.
Katlyn McCue finished up.
Megan Miller led the Saints going 2-for-2 with a double.
Garland Evans and
Morgan Murphy each had a single.
Flagler concludes its 10-game road swing with a pair of Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders this weekend. The Saints visit Francis Marion University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Florence, South Carolina.
