AIKEN, S.C. – Flagler College saw its 3-1 lead evaporate thanks to a four-run fifth inning that helped USC Aiken rally to a 6-3 win in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USC Aiken improved to 26-19 overall and 15-10 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its third game in a row and dropped to 27-20 overall and 18-10 in conference play.
The Saints jumped out to an early lead as
Dillon Reed led off the game with a double and scored two batters later when
Jason Moore did the same. Moore scored on a fielder's choice to give Flagler a 2-0 lead.
The Pacers got a run back in the second, but
Steven DiPuglia hit an RBI double in the third to stake the Saints to a 3-1 lead.
USC Aiken got a run back, again, in the bottom of the third before blowing up in the fifth for four runs.
Chandler Rogers hit a two-run double to left field to give the Pacers a 4-3 lead and Luke Leisenring followed with a triple to right-center that scored Rogers.
Mitch Spence (7-4) scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in eight innings of work to pick up the win. Henry Cartrett tossed the ninth and allowed a lead-off single, but fanned the next three batters to record his fourth save.
Rogers went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two runs batted in. Blake Jenkins went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Cooper Wallace (0-2) lasted 4 2/3 innings and surrendered six runs on seven hits for the Saints.
Luke Cooksey tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He fanned four batters.
DiPuglia went 2-for-4 with the double and one RBI.
Elliott Schubert collected two singles and stole a base.
The same two teams will meet tomorrow at 4 p.m.
