ST. AUGUSTINE – Florida Tech loaded the bases with nobody out and an error allowed two runs to score. That was the difference in the game as Florida Tech edged Flagler College 6-4 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Florida Tech won its fourth consecutive game to improve to 9-7. Flagler had its four-game winning snapped and dropped to 11-9.
Saints closer
Ethan Jones (0-3) came in to keep the game tied, but Rodnie Bernard led off with a single to right. James Gronberg followed with a single to left field and Bernard scampered all the way to third and Gronberg took second when
Sean Lawlor bobbled the ball in left field. The next batter was intentionally walked and the Saints brought their infielders in.
Dylan Owens hit a ground ball to shortstop
Steven DiPuglia who had the ball carom off his foot and it went into center field. Two runs scored on the play and the Panthers had runners at second and third again. Jones went on to strike out the next three-of-four batters to get out of the inning. He allowed two hits and one earned run with two walks in his lone inning of work.
Flagler had runners on first and second with two outs in the ninth, but Ryan Allain got
Frankie Martello to pop up to end the game. Allain earned his fourth save of the season as he struck out two batters in his one inning.
Andrew Giddens (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he allowed two hits and one run in the eighth.
Pedro Rivera went 2-for-4 with a double for Florida Tech.
Aaron Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and he scored a run. Lawlor went 2-for-5 with a double and he drove in a run.
Ja'Kobi Dasher collected two singles. Dylan Reed singled twice and scored two runs.
Both team combined to leave 21 runners on base.
Flagler heads out on the road for a weekend series at Georgia Southwestern State University. That series starts on Friday at 6 p.m.
