Morgan’s homer in the 10th to help Saints split on Sunday

AIKEN, S.C. – Tatum Morgan socked a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to help Flagler College earn a split in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at the University of South Carolina Aiken Sunday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field. USC Aiken won the opener 4-0 and Flagler took game two, 3-2.

Flagler is now 23-14 overall and 6-2 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken is 18-22 overall and 2-10 in conference play.

With two outs in the top of the 10th in game two, Morgan worked a 2-0 count before sending the next pitch over the left field wall.

The Pacers were able to get a base runner on in the home-half of the inning, but couldn't get her off first base.

The Saints took a 2-1 lead in the third inning after back-to-back RBI singles by Garland Evans and Morgan.

Alayna Savaglio (3-4) went the distance and allowed two runs on six hits. She fanned a season-high 11 batters.

Morgan finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Evans and Genevieve Mangini added singles.

Hannah Price (8-12) scattered four hits and allowed three runs for the Pacers.

Katie Painter singled twice with one RBI.

In the first game, Caroline Cockrell (10-9) tossed a two-hitter for USC Aiken. She retired 17 batters on ground outs.

Cockrell got all of the offense she would need in the fourth. Painter hit an RBI single and Sydney Burk followed with a two-run down the left field line.

The Pacers added another run in the sixth.

Burk went 2-for-3 with the double and three RBI. Painter was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI. Price collected two singles.

Kyra Gipson (12-6) allowed four runs on seven hits, but tied her season-high in strikeouts with eight.

Maria Kappos and Natalie Murphy each hit a single for the Saints.

The road weary Saints stay on the road for a twinbill on Wednesday at Rollins College at 5 p.m.
