AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Jason Moore and
Sean Lawlor combined for eight of Flagler College's 16 hits and
Robert Girgis (5-0) tossed seven scoreless innings in a 13-1 victory over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
Flagler improved to 14-13 overall and 8-6 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 13-11 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
After scoring an unearned run in the first inning, the Saints struck four times in the second. Three consecutive singles, including a two-run base hit by
Justin Neo, led to the out-burst.
Flagler added two runs in the third, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
Girgis struck out five batters and induced nine ground outs and six fly outs. He retired nine-of-the-first-10 batters he faced. Only two base runners in his seven innings of work reached scoring position.
Moore collected four singles, scored a run, and he had one run batted in. Lawlor went 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and he scored a run.
Dillon Reed singled, doubled, scored two runs, and knocked two more in. Neo hit two singles, scored a run, and drove in a pair.
Elliott Schubert tied a NCAA Division II and PBC record as he was hit by a pitch four times. He scored three runs, stole two bases and had a base hit.
Christian Griffin (1-5) surrendered six earned runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Trent Maddox went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and Mason Robertson collected two singles.
The same two teams will meet in the rubber game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
