GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Tabitha Odabe's 12 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocked shots were not enough in Flagler College's 85-61 loss at Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Finis Horne Arena.
Lander won its eighth game in a row to improve to 17-5 overall and 14-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in conference play.
"I was disappointed in our performance today, particularly our rebounding and free throw shooting," said head coach
Erika Lang-Montgomery. "Lander is a great basketball team and they played like a first place team today."
The Bearcats closed the first half on a 14-0 run to head into the locker room with a 47-32 advantage. Sarah Crews scored nine of those points for Lander.
Symone Starks led all scorers with 22 points, with the help of five 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds. Jessica Harris added 20 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Miriam Recarte tacked on 16 points while Crews came off the bench to score 13 points and grab nine rebounds. Tabitha Dailey contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
Lander out-rebounded Flagler, 44-31.
Kierra Crane led the Saints with 13 points.
Chris Wilson added 12 points and six rebounds while
Ivana Boyd tallied 11 points.
Flagler made 42.9 percent (6-14) from the free throw line. That was the lowest percentage recorded by the Saints since the Saint Leo University game on Nov. 20 (40.9).
Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium on "Moe's Southwest Grill Night."
