GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Gedi Juozapaitis scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half in Flagler College's 72-66 loss at Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Finis Horne Arena.
Lander improved to 9-13 overall and 8-8 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 7-14 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but the Saints were able to rally and take a 23-22 lead on a Juozapaitis 3-pointer with 4:49 left to go in the half.
Lander was able to score the last seven points of the first half to take a 31-25 lead into the break.
An Elijah Alston layup with 13:50 to go in the game sparked a 10-4 run by the Bearcats. Alston capped the run by draining three free throws to give Lander its largest lead of the game, 51-36.
Later in the game, Flagler scrapped its way back thanks to an 11-3 run of their own. Another trey by Juozapaitis with 1:48 left trimmed the Bearcats lead to three (67-64). The Saints could not get any closer.
Sidney Robinson led Lander with 15 points. Rahu Purdie and Morris Robinson, Jr. each added 11 points.
The Bearcats sank 73.1 percent (19-26) of their free throws, which included making 80 percent (14-16) in the second half.
Juozapaitis added 10 rebounds to finish with his seventh double-double of the season, and second consecutive.
Vaughn McCall tacked on 13 points.
Jeffercy Jean supplied eight rebounds and seven points.
The Saints were held to 33.3 percent (24-72) shooting from the field, including a 23.5 percent (8-34) mark in the first half.
Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium on "Moe's Southwest Grill Night."
