ST. AUGUSTINE –
Vaughn McCall scored 19 of his season-high 32 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough as No. 7 (NABC Division II Top 25) University of South Carolina Aiken defeated Flagler College 91-81 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
USC Aiken improved to 21-2 overall and raised its league-leading record to 15-2. Flagler fell to 7-15 overall and 4-12 in conference play.
The Pacers raced out to a 28-9 lead and took a 51-34 advantage into the break.
USC Aiken made 48.6 percent (18-37) from the field, including 46.7 percent (7-15) from 3-point range. The Pacers out-rebounded the Saints by 10 and grabbed 10 offensive rebounds that led to nine second chance points.
The Saints went on a 21-6 run of its own to pull to within five (57-52) after a McCall trey with 13:28 left.
The Pacers, though, scored the next 10 points to pull away.
Ty'lik Evans poured in a game-high 36 points on 13-of-23 shooting from the field and he drained eight 3-pointers. He added five assists and five steals to his line. Xzaiver Barmore contributed 20 points and three steals while Faison Brock recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Pacers shot 50 percent (13-26) from 3-point range.
DeMari Davis came off the bench to score nine points and grab eight rebounds for the Saints.
Gedi Juozapaitis chipped in with eight points and
Logan Swackhammer tallied six assists.
Flagler hits the road for a game on Saturday against Clayton State University at 3:30 p.m.
