Saints put away stubborn Jaguars to win seventh in a row

ST. AUGUSTINE – Chris Wilson scored a game-high 23 points and added a season-high 16 rebounds to help power Flagler College to a 74-63 win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler extended its winning streak to seven in a row as it improved to 15-5 overall and 11-3 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 4-16 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

"Augusta did a great job tonight of spreading us out defensively and forcing us to guard the three-point shot," said head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery. "Ivana Boyd and Dayuna Jonson did a great job of finding their teammates tonight. Both were solid in taking care of the ball."

Wilson did most of her damage in the fourth quarter. The 5-foot-10 junior forward scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the final 10 minutes. For the game, Wilson made 10-of-15 from the field. Kierra Crane added 16 points while Malaysia Robinson contributed 14 points coming off the bench. Johnson finished with 11 points and seven assists. Tabitha Odabe was limited to just six points, but she grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked four shots. Boyd tacked on eight points and tallied seven assists.

The Saints dominated the shorter Jaguars in the paint with a 36-12 scoring advantage. The disparity was even greater in the rebounding with Flagler enjoying a 52-26 difference.

A 16-3 run by Flagler in the fourth quarter allowed the Saints to pull away.

Kaela Patrick led Augusta with 15 points and five assists. Mallory Myers finished with 10 points. Cameryn Wilson contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

Flagler visits conference-leader Lander University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Greenwood, South Carolina.
