ST. AUGUSTINE –
Robert Girgis (1-0) tossed five innings and fanned eight batters to help Flagler College defeat Barton College 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Flagler (3-0) sweeps the season-opening series with Barton (0-3).
Girgis allowed only three hits and one run. He issued three walks.
He had a shaky first inning as Jakob Markos led off the game with a double down the left field line and scored on Hunter Pearre's single up the middle.
Girgis settled down after that as he allowed only four more base runners before exiting the game.
The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the first when
Sean Lawlor singled home
Justin Neo.
In the third, Neo hit a triple to left field and he scored the go ahead run on
Aaron Anderson's sacrifice fly to left-center.
A pinch hit two-run single by
Connor Laspina in the sixth inning gave the Saints some breathing room, 4-1.
Flagler plated an unearned run in the eighth.
Neo led the Saints offense going 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Lawlor finished with two singles, a run scored, and an RBI.
Colby Warren (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs. He allowed two runs on three hits in five innings of work.
Marcos went 2-for-3 with a double and he scored the lone run.
Flagler heads out of town to face Valdosta State University on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
