ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 15 (Oracle/ITA Division II ranking) Flagler College knocked off its second top 10 opponent in as many days with a 4-3 win over No. 3 Lynn University in a non-conference men's tennis match Sunday at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Flagler improved to 5-2 and earned its first win over Lynn during the NCAA D2 era. Lynn suffered its first loss and fell to 5-1.
The Fighting Knights took the first point by winning doubles.
The Saints trailed 3-1 but got wins from
Konstantin Dustmann and
Felipe Carvalho to knot the match at 3-all. It all came down to the No. 1 singles match between
Lukas Storck and Kay Bartmann, who was ranked No. 43 in the country. The two split the first two sets and then had to go to a tiebreaker in the third set to declare a winner. Storck out-lasted Bartmann 7-3 to clinch the match for the Saints.
Up next for Flagler is a road trip to Winter Park to take on Rollins College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
