ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 15 (Oracle/ITA Division II ranking) Flagler College defeated No. 18 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 4-2 in a non-conference men's tennis match Wednesday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Flagler improved to 3-2 while Embry-Riddle dropped to 1-2.
"We won a close match today," said director of tennis
Thomas Hipp. "We had a good team effort and played with more confidence and energy."
The Saints took the first point of the match when
Luca Bolla and
Daniel Arrien won their match followed by
Rasmus Jonsson and
Felipe Carvalho's win at No. 2, 7-6(3).
Flagler led the match 3-2 with two singles matches left to play. Carvalho defeated Lucas Bos 6-4, 4-6, and 6-4 to wrap up the match for the Saints.
Jonsson and
Reid Burrows also posted wins in singles play.
Flagler hosts No. 6 Saint Leo University on Saturday at the Flagler Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
