MORROW, Ga. – Flagler College was forced into 30 turnovers that led to 35 Clayton State University points as the Lakers rolled to a 76-47 win in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at The Loch.
Clayton State won its fourth game in a row and improved to 16-7 overall and 12-5 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 16-7 overall and 12-5 in league play.
TaKwana Bland came off the bench to lead the Lakers with a game-high 21 points. Velencia Johnson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Taneria Wilson contributed 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Madison Newby tacked on 10 points.
The Lakers closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 23-10 lead after the first 10 minutes. Clayton State shot 66.7 percent (10-15) from the field. The Lakers converted eight Saints turnovers into 11 points.
Tabitha Odabe led the Saints with 10 points, six rebounds, and six blocked shots.
Tatiyana Rock added eight points while
Chris Wilson finished with seven points and eight rebounds.
The Saints were held to 28.7 percent (4-15) shooting from the field in the first quarter. Flagler mustered a 30.2 percent (16-53) mark for the game.
The 3-point shot would not fall for Flagler making just 1-of-14 from long range.
The 30 turnovers were the second-most in a game this season. Flagler committed 32 turnovers on Dec. 1 against the same Clayton State team.
Flagler will head to Milledgeville to take on Georgia College on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
