MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – No. 2 (Oracle/ITA Division II ranking) Barry University defeated No. 6 Flagler College 6-1 in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
After a one-hour rain delay, the Buccaneers doubles teams quickly secured the match's first point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
Barry clinched the match with a win at No. 2 singles when Carlos Gomez, the nation's No. 6-ranked player, bested
Rasmus Jonsson 6-3 and 6-3.
Luca Bolla recorded the lone point for the Saints with his win at No. 4 over Alejandro Palacios, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.
"We could have won the doubles point," said director of tennis
Thomas Hipp. "We played well, but we were not effective enough on no-ad points. That was the major difference today.
"I hope we play equally well tomorrow versus Palm Beach Atlantic, and if we do so, I am confident we will win," added Hipp.
Flagler is back in action tomorrow at Palm Beach Atlantic University at 1 p.m. at West Palm Beach, Florida.
