WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 19 (Oracle/ITA Division II ranking) Palm Beach Atlantic University edged No. 6 Flagler College 4-3 in a non-conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
It was the season opener for Palm Beach Atlantic while Flagler lost its second consecutive match and fell to 2-2.
"We started really slow in doubles being down right away," said director of tennis
Thomas Hipp. "We came back in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but could only win the first. Singles was a bit better, but we did not have the nerves to win. It was a very tough loss, especially the way we played."
The Sailfish earned the first point of the day after winning doubles matches at Nos. 2 and 3.
Flagler fell behind 3-2 in the match, but Dustmann's win at No. 5 over Salmon (6-4, 1-6, 6-4) squared the match at 3. The team win hinged on who would win at No. 2 singles between Philipp Hoffman and Jonson. Both had won a set. Hoffman prevailed in the third set, 6-4, and the Sailfish took the match.
Flagler hosts Eastern Florida State College in an exhibition on Saturday (Feb. 16) at 12 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
