ST. AUGUSTINE –
Karlie Redfern recorded team-high 14 kills and added 12 digs as Flagler College defeated the University of South Carolina Aiken 3-1 (29-27, 26-24, 12-25, 25-20) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Redfern finished with a .268 hitting percentage with three errors on 41 swings for Flagler (19-7 overall, 6-3 PBC).
Rachel Machovec notched her eighth double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs while
Rebekah Machovec added nine kills, eight digs, and four block assists.
Kayla Norelli collected a match-high 21 digs.
Kennedy Muff tallied 43 assists and
Jordan Taylor recorded a season-high six block assists.
Rachel Porada had four service aces.
Christine Carroll led USC Aiken (24-3, 8-2) with 18 kills and six total blocks. Anita Cookey-Gam added 12 more kills. Rebecca Martinez collected 19 digs while Ali Bell tallied 24 assists.
The Saints won two marathon sets to start the match and then the Pacers rolled in the third set.
In the fourth set, USC Aiken had pulled to within one (20-19), but an attack error by Carroll and a kill by Redfern gave Flagler a 22-19 lead and forced a Pacer timeout. After a point by USCA, Redfern added a kill and then blocked Carroll to give the Saints match point.
Rebekah Machovec ended the match with a spike.
Flagler hit .250 in the final set with 13 kills and four errors on 36 swings. Redfern had five kills while
Rachel Machovec added four.
Flagler closes out its home schedule tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Lander University at Flagler Gymnasium. Before the match the Saints will honor their three seniors Norelli, Porada, and
Sarah Schark.
