Three different Saints score in win Wednesday night

AMERICUS, Ga. – Three different Flagler College players scored a goal in a 3-0 win at Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match at Hurricane Field.

Flagler improved to 3-11-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the PBC. The Saints are in a three-way tie for fifth place and the top six teams advance to the conference tournament. One of those teams, North Georgia, has wins over Flagler and USC Aiken (the other team). The Saints already own a win over the Pacers. Georgia Southwestern fell to 4-10-0 overall and 0-6-0 in conference play.

Dan McGuire got the Saints on the board in the 10th minute. Eden Shachar's corner kick went to the near post, but a GSW player tried to head the ball away, but the errant clear attempt went to McGuire at the top right corner of the box and he fired a shot into the back of the net.

Owen Punselie had a one-touch goal with only a Hurricane defender between him and the goal in the 36th minute. Henrique Salomao had drawn the keeper out of the frame to the right and then fed Punselie who was anchored in front of the goal and he chipped a shot over the defender.

Linus Johansson scored his first goal of the season for Flagler with 55 seconds left to go in the match. McGuire and Punselie assisted.

Andrea Lubbia turned in his first clean sheet of the season and had two saves. Oneil Lewis finished with one save for the Hurricanes.

Flagler out-shot GSW 23-10 and held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. The Saints also enjoyed a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Flagler closes out its season on Saturday against No. 21 (United Soccer Coaches D2 Top 25) Lander University at 5 p.m. at Saints Field.
