YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – No. 15 (United Soccer Coaches D2 Top 25) Young Harris College scored three times in the second half to down Flagler College 4-0 in Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions, ranked No. 5 in the first edition of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll released this week, improve to 10-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the PBC. The loss drops the Saints to 2-11-1 overall and 1-4-0 in PBC play.
Flagler played even with Young Harris for much of the first half, but Dan Creese put the hosts ahead to stay in the 32
nd minute when he collected a rebound following a save by Flagler's
Andrea Lubbia and beat the keeper to his right for a 1-0 lead.
The Mountain Lions put the game away with a pair of goals within 18 minutes to open the second half. Sondre Olsen redirected a Jordan Mills shot into the net in the 51
st minute and Val Feeney followed in the 62
nd minute with a strike from distance to hand Young Harris a 3-0 advantage.
An own goal by the Saints in the 77
th accounted for the final 4-0 margin.
Alex Iglesias turned in a clean sheet for the Mountain Lions. Lubbia made seven saves for the Saints.
Joran Osland recorded Flagler's lone shot attempt.
Young Harris out-shot Flagler 14-1 and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler looks to keep its PBC postseason hopes alive on Wednesday (Nov. 6) when it heads to Georgia Southwestern for a 7 p.m. match.
