ST. AUGUSTINE –
Charlene Nowotny scored a goal and added three assists to break the school record in career points as No. 4 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College coasted to a 7-1 victory over the University of South Carolina Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match at Saints Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Nowotny's five points today gives her 97 career points. Entering the match, she was tied with Marissa McConnihay (2003-05) with 92 points. Nowotny broke the record when she assisted on the match's first goal, which was scored by
Josefine Nilsen in the ninth minute.
"Today was an excellent collective team performance," said head coach
Ashley Martin. "We scored some wonderful goals and controlled the majority of the game. We got the result we wanted, but now our attention turns to UNC Pembroke. We know they will give us an extremely tough game on Saturday."
Annie Habeeb scored a pair of goals and tallied an assist for Flagler (9-0-0 overall, 4-0-0 Peach Belt).
Sara Sandberg added a goal and an assist while
Ali Ritter and
Chloe Byrne found the back of the net for the Saints.
Willa Olson scored an unassisted goal in the 89
th minute for USC Aiken (1-7-0, 1-2-0).
Sarah-Lisa Dubel collected three saves for the Saints. The Pacers used two keepers, Madi Banks and Makenzie Maxwell. Banks finished with five saves and Maxwell has six.
Flagler out-shot USC Aiken 27-7, which included an 18-4 difference in shots on goal. The Saints held an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler hit the road for a match on Saturday (Oct. 12) against UNC Pembroke.
