DAHLONEGA, Ga. – In a match-up of top 20 team No. 4 (United Soccer Coaches Division II) Flagler College and No. 20 University of North Georgia played to a 2-2 double overtime tie in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.
With Flagler (13-0-1 overall, 7-0-1 PBC) trailing 2-1 early in the second half,
Josefine Nilsen scored the equalizer with an unassisted goal in the 59
th minute.
Neither team would find the back of the net again for the rest of regulation time or the two 10-minute overtime periods.
The Saints had a couple of chances in the second overtime, but
Sara Sandberg's attempt went wide left and later,
Annie Habeeb just couldn't get enough on her shot to get it past Nighthawk goalkeeper Morgan Ramby.
Sandberg got Flagler on the board quickly with a goal in the seventh minute.
Taylor Masek scored the equalizer for North Georgia (11-2-1, 7-1-1) when she converted a penalty kick in the 31
st minute.
Maysoon El-Shami scored an unassisted goal in the 52
nd minute to give the Nighthawks a lead.
Sarah-Lisa Dubel tallied six saves for Flagler while Ramby collected four saves for the Nighthawks.
North Georgia out-shot Flagler 22-12 and held a slight 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Nighthawks had eight corner kicks while the Saints had four.
Flagler returns home to face Albany (Ga.) State University on Wednesday (Oct. 30) on "Senior Night" at 6 p.m. at Saints Field.
