ST. AUGUSTINE –
Owen Punselie scored a pair of goals as Flagler College defeated the University of South Carolina Aiken 4-2 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday night at Saints Field.
Punselie scored an unassisted goal in the 36
th minute and added another goal in the 88
th minute to Flagler (2-10-1 overall, 1-3-0 PBC) some insurance.
The first goal he scored he dribbled down the left side of the field ripped a shot from 15 yards out to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
USC Aiken (3-8-0, 2-2-0) got on the board 10 minutes into the second half when Chukwudi Apugo scored the first of his two goals.
In the 72
nd minute,
Eden Shachar found
Dan McGuire with a touch pass and McGuire buried the shot in the back of the net to give Flagler a commanding 3-1 lead.
Apugo made it a one goal game (3-2) when he scored in the 82
nd minute for the Pacers.
McGuire found Punselie with a through ball and Punselie took the ball in and scored to put the game out of reach.
Henrique Salomao scored the game's first goal when he one-timed
Peik Koskinen's pass in the 32
nd minute.
Andrea Lubbia recorded six saves for Flagler while USC Aiken used two keepers. Kenneth Kalek made three saves in 51 minutes played and Brendan Gribek had one in the final 39 minutes.
Shots were evenly distributed at 12 as were the shots on goal (8). The Pacers held the edge in corner kicks, 8-3.
Flagler will make the long trek to Young Harris College for a match on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m.
