ST. AUGUSTINE –
Sarah-Lisa Dubel recorded her 18
th career shutout as No. 4 (United Soccer Coaches Division II) Flagler College blanked Georgia College 4-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.
Dubel broke the previous record of 17, which was held by Kate Carver (2003-05).
"Today was a game of two halves," said head coach
Ashley Martin. "We were forced to work hard and grind out the first half. The second half became more open and we established control of the game. Sarah-Lisa had another fabulous game and fully deserved the shutout and in turn break the record."
Brin Wexler scored a goal in the 32
nd minute, which would prove to be enough for Flagler (12-0 overall, 6-0 PBC) to equal its win total from last year and remain perfect on the season.
A pass was lofted into the top of the box where
Gabi Flores gathered the ball and shuffled a pass to
Charlene Nowotny. Nowotny drew a Bobcat defender and found an open Wexler to her left who chipped her shot underneath the cross bar.
That score would remain the same going into the half.
Maria Castorino Mujica scored the first of her two goals a little over two minutes into the second half. She followed with her other goal four minutes later.
Chloe Byrne capped the scoring with her goal in the 60
th minute.
Dubel tallied two saves for Flagler. Georgia College (4-6-2, 3-2-1) used two keepers as Kate Richardson had three saves while Haley Titus finished the game and had one save.
The Saints out-shot the Bobcats 12-5 and held an 8-2 difference in shots on goal. Each team had a corner kick.
Flagler will be on the road for two matches this week starting with Wednesday's (Oct. 23) match at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus at 7 p.m.
