Women’s tennis team members advance to finals at YTF tourney

LAKELAND, Fla. – Flagler College's Lixin Wang reached the finals in singles as well as Anika Nissen and Eden Schlagenhauf reached the doubles final at the Youth Tennis Foundation Small Florida College Tournament, which was held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 11-13) at the Edgewood Tennis Center.

Wang defeated teammate Amelie Vossgaetter 6-0 and 6-1 in yesterday's semifinal. Wang took on Ekaterina Grin from the University of Tampa in today's final and lost 6-4 and 6-4. Wang posted a 4-1 record in singles play this weekend.

In doubles, it was an all Flagler semifinal match yesterday between Nissen/Traub and Vossgaetter/Felicitas Runkel. Nissen and Traub came away with an 8-4 win to advance to this morning's final. They were knocked off by the tandem of Grib and Savannah Williams of Tampa, 8-6. Nissen and Traub went 3-1 this weekend in doubles play.

Schlagenhauf will represent Flagler at the ITA Cup later this week in Rome, Georgia. The final tournament of the season for the team is the Barry Fall Invitational at Miami Shores, Florida, Nov. 8-10.
