AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Chris Wilson made 14-of-her-16 shots from the field to score a season-high 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help lead Flagler College to a 67-59 win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Flagler won its third game in a row and improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt. Augusta lost its eighth game in a row and dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
"Chris really carried us offensively tonight along with Tabitha (Odabe)," said head coach
Erika Lang-Montgomery. "Augusta did a great job limiting our offense on the perimeter. I thought our defensive effort and rebounding in the second half (29-17) helped us pull out the win. I was proud of our free throw shooting down the stretch."
The Jaguars took a short-lived 59-58 lead after a 3-pointer by Cameryn Wilson with 4:09 left to go in the game. That was the last field goal Augusta would muster.
They finished the last four-plus minutes 0-for-10 from the field, which included three failed three-pointers.
Conversely, Flagler made three-of-its-final-six shots from the field, made three-of-four from the free throw line, and grabbed nine rebounds.
Tabitha Odabe got the run started for the Saints as her layup with 3:56 left put Flagler in the lead for good, 60-59. She capped the run with two free throws with nine seconds left.
Odabe finished the game with 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and six blocked shots. The six assists was a career-high for the 6-foot-5 senior center.
Brianna Middleton led Augusta with 17 points and she grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Jaelyn Autman and Wilson each tallied 11 points. Asia Harrison tacked on 10 points.
Flagler out-scored Augusta in the paint, 42-24.
Up next for Flagler is Lander University on Saturday (Jan. 12) at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium on "Northeast Florida Regional Airport Day."
