ST. AUGUSTINE – Georgia College closed the final eight-plus minutes on a 17-5 run to defeat Flagler College 85-77 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Georgia College earned its first conference victory (1-4) and raised its overall record to 6-5. In their four league losses, the Bobcats lost by an average of only 4.3 points per game. Flagler lost its second game in a row and fell to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Neither team had played a game since Dec. 19.
Jordan Thomas scored 10 of his game-high 32 points in that final push by Georgia College. He made 13-of-22 from the field and sank 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
Isaac Thomas added 15 points while Desmond Mitchell-LaFlam chipped in with 11 points and seven assists. Kohl Roberts grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Flagler had trailed the entire game, but tied the game on a
Jeffercy Jean put-back with 9:18 left in the game. After a five-second call on a Georgia College in-bounds attempt underneath its own basket, the Saints used that turnover to get another basket to extend the lead.
Gedi Juozapaitis added a layup to give Flagler its largest lead, 72-68, with 8:28 left to go.
Juozapaitis led the Saints with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Damerit Brown came off the bench to provide 16 points with the help of four 3-pointers.
Chris Metzger tacked on 12 points and six rebounds. Jean contributed nine points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
The Saints committed 11 of their 19 turnovers in the first half. Those turnovers led to 20 points by the Bobcats.
Flagler out-rebounded Georgia College 40-39 and grabbed 14 offensive rebounds that led to 24 second-chance points. In the first half alone, the Bobcats crashed the offensive glass and got 11 rebounds, but the only had two offensive boards in the second half.
The Saints visit Augusta University on Wednesday (Jan. 9) at 7:30 p.m.
