ST. AUGUSTINE –
Chris Wilson (18 points and 13 rebounds) and
Tabitha Odabe (11 points, 11 rebounds) recorded double-doubles to power Flagler College to a 67-61 win over Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in the Peach Belt. Francis Marion's two-game winning streak came to a close and the Patriots dropped to 8-7 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
"Francis Marion had a great game-plan to slow us down offensively," said head coach
Erika Lang-Montgomery. "I was proud of our execution down the stretch. We made big plays to close the game; defensive stops when we needed them; and finishes on the offensive end."
The Patriots took a 62-58 lead into the final quarter, but struggled to find their shot in final 10 minutes going 3-for-15 from the field (20 percent).
The Saints took advantage of the cold shooting by the Patriots and went on an 11-2 run, which erased a three-point Francis Marion lead.
Wilson's layup with 3:59 to go gave Flagler a 58-57 lead. The Saints would never trail again. Wilson scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in the final quarter. Flagler out-scored Francis Marion 19-9 in the fourth quarter.
Kierra Crane added 15 points for the Saints.
Dayuna Johnson tacked on nine points and added five assists.
Malaysia Robinson contributed nine points.
Shaunice Fulmore scored a game-high 28 points for the Patriots. She added seven rebounds to her line.
"Fulmore is a great player," added Lang-Montgomery. "She gave everything today."
Kiana Adderton added 16 points and five rebounds. Abigail Bullock finished with eight points, five assists and four rebounds.
Flagler hosts Columbus State University on Wednesday (Jan. 30) at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium on "Tijuana Flats Night."
