ST. AUGUSTINE –
Malaysia Robinson poured in a season-high 24 points with the help of six 3-pointers to lead Flagler College to an 85-74 win over Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler extended its winning streak to five games and improved to 13-5 overall and 9-3 in the Peach Belt. The winning streak for the Saints is its longest since a similar streak occurred in the 2012-13 season. Columbus State dropped to 9-8 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
"I was proud to see Malaysia have a strong offensive performance," said Lang-Montgomery. "There is so much attention given to Tabitha (Odabe) and Chris (Wilson). She was able to get some open looks and knock them down.
"We did a much better job defensively in the second half," added Lang-Montgomery. "That helped fuel our offense to close the game despite our poor free throw shooting."
The Saints used a 12-0 run at the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth to pull away from the Lady Cougars.
Tatiana Wayne gave Columbus State a short-lived 43-42 lead with 5:09 to go in the third quarter. She led the Lady Cougars with 22 points.
Jazzy Mathis' three-pointer with six seconds left sparked Flagler 12-0 run.
Wilson came off the bench to record her seventh double-double of the season, and fourth in a row, with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Dayuna Johnson added 14 points and tallied five assists. Odabe recorded her team-high 11
th double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. It was her fifth consecutive double-double. She added four blocked shots.
Ivana Boyd matched her season-high in rebounds with 13 and added seven points with six assists.
Flagler out-scored Columbus State 51-37 in the second half, after trailing 37-34 at the half.
LeeAysia Williamson added 15 points and eight assists for Columbus State. Naomi Holloway contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Khari Jernigan finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Flagler will head north on I-95 on Saturday to take on UNC Pembroke.
