Wilson and Odabe record double-doubles as Saints hold on to win

ST. AUGUSTINE – Chris Wilson and Tabitha Odabe both recorded double-doubles to help lead Flagler College to a 63-56 win over Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt. The Saints won their fourth game in a row against the Mountain Lions. Young Harris lost its seventh game in a row and dropped to 3-13 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

"It was nice to get back on the court and play again after our overtime loss Wednesday night," said head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery. "After another slow start offensively, we were able to come out in the third quarter and make some shots and increase our lead."

Wilson finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Odabe added 11 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. She blocked six shots.

The Saints never trailed in the game and held a 19-15 lead at the half. Both teams struggled from the field in the opening half with Flagler making just 28.6 percent (8-28) while Young Harris only made 20.7 percent (6-29).

Flagler pulled away with a 23-9 run over a 9-minute, 46-second span. Malaysia Robinson's old-fashioned three-point play gave the Saints a 44-28 lead with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter.

Young Harris used a 9-0 run late to close the gap to just four points (59-55) with 21 seconds left.

Dayuna Johnson added 10 points as well as a season-high eight assists.

"Give Young Harris credit for slowing us down and forcing us to execute inside," added Lang-Montgomery. "I was proud of our free throw shooting to close the game."

Pamela Diokpara led Young Harris with 12 points and nine rebounds coming off the bench. Haylie Shope grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Flagler hosts No. 22 (WBCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
