Connor Gettemy hired as director of sports performance

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations Joey Wiles announced the hiring of Connor Gettemy as the new director of sports performance. Gettemy will start Jan. 17.

"We are very excited to invite Connor to the Flagler family," said Wiles. "During this process we had the privilege of reviewing an impressive pool of applicants. It was clear that Connor has prepared for this opportunity and has the energy, technical knowledge, and organizational skills necessary to push our student-athletes to reach their highest potential."

Gettemy is familiar to many on the First Coast as he has spent the last year and a half at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville where he served as the assistant strength and condition coach. He was responsible for numerous programs including men's and women's soccer, women's golf, men's tennis, cross country, track and field, and softball. He also supervised UNF's strength and conditioning internship program.

"I could not be more excited to contribute to Flagler Athletics' rich tradition of success," said Gettemy. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Jud Damon, the search committee, and the rest of the athletics staff for their hospitality during the hiring process. Their passion and love for their work is evident. I look forward to working with a staff so deeply invested in the success of our student-athletes in life and sport alike, and I firmly believe that I will be a tremendous asset to our athletic department and Flagler College as a whole."

Prior to his time at UNF, Gettemy spent 13 months at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex as a sports performance coach. He designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs for the U9-U18 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite athletes. He spent two years (2014-16) at Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa as its assistant strength and conditioning coach. It was there that Gettemy served as the strength coach to men's and women's soccer, men's and women's wrestling, men's and women's golf, and cheerleading all while working toward his master's in organizational leadership and sports management. He also interned at Robert Morris University and Hofstra University.

Gettemy received his bachelor's in exercise science from Hofstra in 2014 and earned his master's from Waldorf in 2016. He is certified through the CSCCa and NSCA and is a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting.
