DAYTONA BEACH – Angel Golden scored a game-high 28 points to lead Bethune-Cookman University to a 74-59 win over Flagler College in a women's college basketball game Sunday afternoon at Historic Moore Gymnasium.
Bethune-Cookman, a member of NCAA Division I, improved to 5-3. The game for Flagler was an exhibition and will not count towards its overall record.
After
Ivana Boyd tied the game at 16 with a 3-pointer with 2:31 left in the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats went on a 22-5 run over the next 8:06 to take control of the game.
Golden scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field in that run. The Saints committed five turnovers that led to seven Lady Wildcat points.
Chris Wilson led Flagler with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Tabitha Odabe added 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots.
Flagler shot 58.3 percent (7-12) from the field in the first quarter, but trailed Bethune-Cookman 24-17 because they made 69.2 percent (9-13) of its shots.
The Wildcats took a 41-25 lead into the halftime break.
Golden finished 10-for-21 from the floor and sank four 3-pointers. Chasimmie Brown added 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals while Amaya Scott contributed 11 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Camary Harris tallied 11 points. Amani Walker dished out six assists.
Up next for the Saints will be a Peach Belt Conference tilt at the University of North Georgia on Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Dahlonega.
