Odabe breaks Flagler’s all-time blocked shot record in a 68-63 loss

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Tabitha Odabe scored a team-high 18 points and added eight rebounds along with eight blocked shots, but it wasn't enough as No. 16 (WBCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia rallied to a 68-63 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Monday afternoon at the UNG Convocation Center.

Odabe's eight blocks break the all-time record at Flagler. In just her second year, she has blocked 128 shots. Odabe blocked a school record (single-season) 105 last year. The previous record was held by Rachel Brown (2009-13) with 127.

North Georgia won its fourth game in a row to improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its third in a row and dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Flagler used an 11-0 run, which started in the waning seconds of the third quarter on a Dayuna Johnson layup. Kierra Crane capped the run by hitting two free throws after she was fouled shortly after stealing the ball. That gave Flagler its largest lead (56-46) with 7:15 left in the game.

After that, it was all North Georgia. The Nighthawks out-scored the Saints 22-7 in the final seven-plus minutes. Flagler committed six turnovers that led to eight UNG points. Odabe scored Flagler's two baskets in that stretch while the Nighthawks made 7-of-15 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Amber Skidgel led North Georgia with 18 points. She sank three of North Georgia's seven 3-pointers. Vanessa Agrusa recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Abbie Franklin contributed 14 points and six assists while Julianne Sutton tacked on 10 points.

Crane added 14 points for the Saints while Chris Wilson chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Flagler plays its last game of 2018 on Wednesday at Young Harris College at 1:30 p.m.
