ST. AUGUSTINE – Double-doubles by
Chris Wilson (10 points/12 rebounds) and
Tabitha Odabe (11/10) were not enough as Flagler College lost its Peach Belt Conference opener to Clayton State University 87-76 in overtime Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Clayton State improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 4-3 overall.
A 3-pointer by
Dayuna Johnson gave the Saints a 76-74 lead in overtime, but the Saints went scoreless in the remaining 3:12. The Lakers closed the game on a 13-0 run.
Taneria Wilson came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points, 10 of which came in the extra session, to lead the Lakers. She made 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Aleisha Merriweather added 18 points while TaKwana Bland contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. Valencia Johnson corralled seven rebounds.
Kierra Crane led the Saints with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field.
Malaysia Robinson chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds. Johnson added 11 points, three assists, and three steals.
Tatiyana Rock tallied a game-high six assists.
The game featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes.
Both teams committed 32 turnovers, but Clayton State converted them into 39 points while Flagler cashed those in for 27 points.
Up next for the Saints is an exhibition game at Bethune-Cookman University on Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. at Daytona Beach.
