BEECH ISLAND, S.C. – The Flagler College women's cross country team won its second Peach Belt Conference Championship title Saturday morning at the Redcliffe Plantation course. The first title was in 2013.
Heloise Duffie de Tassigny became the second Flagler runner to win the individual title (Sara Mund, 2013).
"Our seniors really led the way today," said head coach
Brian Beil, who received the PBC Coach of the Year honors. He was the men's coach of the year in 2016. "We weren't as aggressive with our five through eight runners as I would have liked, but the ladies all ran hard today and earned the win over a strong North Georgia squad. We have two weeks to regroup and get our pack together for the regional where we hope to take one of the three bids to nationals."
Duffie de Tassigny posted a 5K time of 18:18.4 to finish in first place and won by 14.5 seconds. She was one of four Saints to earn all-conference honors by finishing in the top 15.
Flagler edged out the University of North Georgia (60 pts.). The Nighthawks had three runners finish in the top 15.
Finishing second in the 82-woman field was Columbus State University's Alli Hay (18:32.9). Flagler's
Lauren Penkala finished in third place with a time of 18:37.0.
Stephany Sislava (19:04.4) and
Jessie Mescal (19:05.5) finished in 10
th and 11
th places, respectively to earn all-conference honors.
Kayla McManama crossed the finish line at 19:26.4 and finished in 21
st place.
Lindsey Williams posted a time of 19:46.9 to finish in 28
th place.
Allison Horwitch (19:55.2),
Malia Cryan (20:20.5),
Abigayle Weinfeld (20:45.8),
Maria Puccio-Ball (21:08.4), and
Reagan Bush (21:20.8) rounded out the runners for the Saints.
The NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Nov. 17 at Oakwood, Georgia awaits the Saints.
