ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College women's cross country team is set to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday (Dec. 1) at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The women's 6K will take place at 12:15 p.m. Eastern.

The only other time the Saints participated at the NCAA Championship was in 2013 in Spokane, Washington where they finished in 32nd place.

This year, the cross country championships (men and women) are part of a weeklong "NCAA Division II Fall Festival" in Pittsburgh. Championships for men's and women's soccer as well as volleyball will go on this weekend at various venues around the city. The opening ceremonies for the festival is tonight and there will be a closing ceremony Saturday night.

Flagler won the Peach Belt Conference title on Nov. 3 and followed that up with a second place finish at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at Oakwood, Georgia. The Saints had three all-region runners in Lauren Penkala, Heloise Duffie de Tassigny, and Kayla McManama. Duffie de Tassigny took home the conference individual title and was the league's runner of the year. Penkala joined her on the all-conference team along with Stephany Sislava and Jessie Mescal.

The Saints will start in box No. 14. There are a total of 34 team boxes as well as 14 pairs of individual runners, each tandem in their own box. Representing Flagler are: Heloise Duffie de Tassigny, Lauren Penkala, Kayla McManama, Stephany Sislava, Jessie Mescal, Malia Cryan, Allison Horwitch, and Lindsey Williams (as an alternate).

The defending national champion is Adams State University. That program has won 17 national titles.

The championship is hosted by Slippery Rock University. Parking and admission cost is $10 per car. Live stream of the race can be found at http://bit.ly/2QLkDPb. The cost of the live stream is $30.
