AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College senior
Heloise Duffie de Tassigny has been selected the Peach Belt Conference Women's Runner of the Year, which announced tonight at the awards banquet.
"Since the conclusion of the 2017 cross country season, which ended at the NCAA Southeast Region meet, with Heloise on the outside looking in, she has really turned a corner with her running," said head coach
Brian Beil. "The past 12 months of training are what prepped her to have the kind of season she has been having up to this point in the season, and with a little luck we can keep the ball rolling for another four weeks."
Duffie de Tassigny becomes the second Flagler runner to be named the PBC Runner of the Year under the current voting system, joining Sara Mund who was a co-Runner of the Year in 2013. The Angers, France native finished behind a non-Division I opponent only once in her three races. She won the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic, was third at the Valdosta State Border bash and ninth among all runners at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational. A two-time PBC Runner of the Week, her time of 17:27.6 at the Mountain Dew is the fastest 5k run in the PBC this season. Flagler has not finished below fourth place in any race she has run this year and the team is currently ranked third in the region, highest in the Peach Belt.
Allison Horwitch and Evan Fuller were named to the All-Sportsmanship Teams.
She, and her Flagler teammates, will compete for the conference title on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at Beech Island, South Carolina.
