CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Flagler College men's cross country team finished in eighth place at the Royals Challenge, which was held Friday evening.
Flagler tallied 303 points and was led by
Crisman Jones who finished in 51
st place with a career-best 8K time of 25:11.
"We ran well considering we were without one of our top runners in
Connor Norton," said
Brian Beil, Flagler head cross country coach. "Connor was stepped on and lost a shoe early in the race. He tried to continue with one bare foot, but that was doing too much damage to his foot and was pulled from the race."
The host school, and 17
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte, topped the 43-team field with 58 points. The Royals had three runners finish in the top 13. The University of Mount Olive finished a close second with 62 points. Morehead State University (73), Lee University (133) and the University of Alabama-Huntsville (140) rounded out the top five.
The field featured two nationally-ranked programs in Division II, Queens and No. 15 Lee, as well as seven NCAA Division I teams. Seven of the 10 regionally ranked team from the southeast region competed in the race.
Heading the 396-man field was Christian Noble of Lee with a time of 23:27. He bested Morehead State's Justin Moakler by 20 seconds (23:47).
Anthony Colasanti (25:21) and
Trenton Liberty (25:22) finished in 62
nd and 64
th places, respectively.
Evan Fuller broke the tape at 25:28 and finished in 70
th place.
Justin Greene (25:41) rounded out the point scorers for Flagler with a 94
th place finish.
Aseli Adum posted a time of 26:13 while
Hunter Ingle finished at 26.43.
Anthony Whelan rounded out the Flagler contingent with a time of 26:56.
The men turn their attention to the postseason and the Peach Belt Conference Championship, which will be held Nov. 3 at Beech Island, South Carolina.
