Flagler holds off Lander rally to win in five

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Sara Davis finished with a match-high 16 kills and had five total blocks to help lead Flagler College to a 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 15-25, 18-25, 15-10) win over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon.

Flagler extended its winning streak to three matches and improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt. Lander lost its third consecutive match and fell to 9-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Once again, Davis came up big in the fifth set as she recorded four kills and hit an efficient .429 with one error on seven swings. The Saints hit .300 as a team in the deciding set with eight kills and had just two errors on 20 swings.

Taja Valmyr recorded her seventh double-double, and third consecutive, with 15 kills and a season-high 19 digs. Karlie Redfern recorded her third double-double of the year with 12 kills and 12 digs. She added three service aces to her line. Kayla Norelli collected a team-high 26 digs while Tara Savisky had a season-high double-double with 50 assists and 14 digs.

Kristin Martindale led the Bearcats with 15 kills and she completed the double-double with 15 digs. Hannah Hritz came off the bench to provide 12 kills. Hannah MacManus led the defense with a match-high 36 digs. Sophia Perkins notched a double-double with 28 assists and 18 digs.

Flagler returns home on Friday, Oct. 6 to take on Francis Marion University at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
