AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Sara Davis recorded five of her season-high 20 kills in the fifth set to help lead Flagler College to a 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13) win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Flagler won its second match in a row and improved to 7-3 overall and evened its Peach Belt record at 1-1. The Saints have won the last seven matches in a row between the two schools. Augusta had a four-match winning streak snapped and it fell to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Jaguars had only lost three sets combined in their winning streak.
Davis hit a sizzling .429 with only two errors on 42 swings and she added a season-high six block assists.
Taja Valmyr recorded her team-leading sixth double-double of the season with 18 kills to go along with a season-best 18 digs.
Karlie Redfern just fell short of a double-double with nine kills and a season-high 18 digs.
Tara Savisky toyed with a triple-double as she finished with a career-high seven kills, 42 assists and 11 digs.
Kayla Norelli collected a team-high 22 digs.
Rachel Porada recorded five of Flagler's 13 service aces and added six digs. The 13 aces by the Saints were the most by a Flagler team since Oct. 23, 2015 when they had the same amount at Francis Marion University. The Saints also racked up a season-high 12 total blocks with
Jordan Taylor leading the way with seven block assists. Valmyr added five more.
Jessica Hedrick led the Jaguars with 16 kills. Natalia Gouveia recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 20 digs. McKenzey Beck recorded a triple-double with 11 kills, 24 assists and 15 digs. Savanna Gonzales added 11 kills. Holland Martin collected a match-high 28 digs.
In the fifth set, the Saints sprinted out to an 8-3 lead, only to see the home-standing Jaguars rally back (down 9-8) and force a Flagler timeout after a Gouveia kill. Later, Alyssa Frazier tied the set at 13-all with a kill, but a Davis spike set up match point for the Saints and then Frazier was guilty of a blocking error to end the match.
Flagler heads to Lander University for a 2 p.m. match tomorrow (Sept. 30) at Greenwood, South Carolina.
