ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jonny Cosgrove scored two early goals to help lead Flagler College to a 5-1 triumph over the University of Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal match Tuesday (Nov. 3) evening at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 9-5-1 overall while Montevallo's season comes to an end with a 6-10-1 record. Flagler advances to Friday's (Nov. 6) semifinal against Lander University which is scheduled to kick-off at 8 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia.
Flagler has now won all six PBC Tournament quarterfinal matches it has hosted since joining the conference in 2009.
Cosgrove was opportunistic on his first goal as he had gathered in a clear by a Montevallo defender and ripped a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to give the Saints a 1-0 lead just 5:52 into the match.
In the 41
st minute, Cosgrove chipped the keeper from 15 yards out stake Flagler to a 2-0 lead.
Eammon Moore registered his first goal of the season just 13 second before halftime to push the Saints lead to 3-0.
Marco Warren and
Samba Diop added goals in the second half for Flagler.
Juan Membreno tallied two assists.
Steven Rocca netted the Falcons' only goal when he headed in Nikola Klacar's corner kick in the 78
th minute.
Lex Craggs tallied two saves in 82:25 of work while
Nevio Golos finished off the game in goal for the Saints. Yannic Horn recorded four saves for Montevallo.
Flagler out-shot Montevallo 18-9, but Montevallo held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
