EVANS, Ga. – Lander University's Hugo Delhomelle, the Peach Belt Conference's Freshman of the Year, scored the game-winning goal with 1:45 left in regulation in a 3-2 win over Flagler College in a tournament semifinal match Friday night at Blanchard Woods Park.
No. 12 (NSCAA Division II Top 25) Lander (14-2-1) advances to the championship match on Sunday (Nov. 8) at 3:30 p.m. against the top-seed, Young Harris College. Flagler's season ends with a 9-6-1 record.
Robert Seaton spotted Delhomelle open on the right side and Delhomelle knocked the ball into the upper left corner to break the 2-2 tie.
Nearly seven minutes earlier, Russell Parker scored the equalizer in the 82
nd minute when he put in a rebound off of Sam Lofts' header which was initially saved by Flagler's
Lex Craggs.
After both teams played to a 1-all tie through 45 minutes,
Pedro Silva struck in the 57
th minute to give Flagler the lead.
Jonny Cosgrove's corner kick into the box was not handled cleanly by Lander keeper Barrett Nielsen. Silva took advantage of the loose ball and buried it into the back of the net.
Cosgrove scored an equalizer in the 27
th minute off of a pass from
Marco Warren.
Michael Leach got the Bearcats on the board first with a goal in the ninth minute.
Nielsen recorded two saves for Lander while Craggs saved seven shots for the Saints. Flagler had one team save.
Lander out-shot Flagler 18-11 and held a 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.
