Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College Saints broke out the bats for 18 hits and drubbed Florida Memorial University 16-1 in a non-conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.

Flagler extended its winning streak to five games and improved to 20-22 overall. Florida Memorial suffered its 16th loss in a row and fell to 8-44.

Flagler got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and added another run in the second on a bases loaded wild pitch.

The Saints tacked on three more runs in the third on the help of back-to-back extra base hits. Jay Laurienzo hit an RBI-double and Tyler Vanover followed with an RBI-triple. Vanover scored on another sacrifice fly and Flagler took a commanding 5-0 lead.

Flagler erupted for four runs in the sixth and seven more in the eighth. The Saints sent 13 men to the plate in the eighth and collected seven hits. Vanover hit a three-run home run to left field. The Saints hit two triples in the inning, the last hit by Jake Hanson which broke the old record of two in a game by the team.

Of Flagler's 18 hits, eight went for extra bases.

Jake Brandenberger (8-2) tossed five innings to get the win. He scattered five hits and allowed one run, but fanned six batters, which tied a season-high.

Vanover went 3-for-5 with a triple and a home run. He knocked in four runs and scored three times. Joe Post went 3-for-5 with a triple, one run batted in and he scored two runs. Andrew Brodbeck singled three times, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Eight of Flagler's nine starters had at least one hit.

Sergio Gonzalez (4-5) tossed six innings and surrendered 11 hits and nine runs for the Lions. He walked two and struck out four.

Alexander Kattergell singled twice and drove in the lone run. Daniel Morales also singled twice.

The same two teams meet tomorrow (April 27) in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Flagler will honor its eight seniors between games. Baseball personality Domingo Ayala will also be on hand for autographs and photos. The 21st annual J. Edward “Red” Cox Award will be presented before the first game.
