Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo pounded out 35 hits and scored 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Flagler College to open a three-game Peach Belt Conference series Saturday at Johnson Field. Montevallo won the opener 12-2 and took the nightcap 14-6.
Montevallo extended its winning streak to five games and has won 10 of its last 11 games to improve to 16-7 overall and 8-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its fifth in a row and fell to 9-12 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
In the opener, Jackson Slaid hit an RBI-single in the first inning and then Todd Thompson and Will Fulmer hit back-to-back RBI singles in the second to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.
That would be all the offense Michael Shreves (4-2) would need as he tossed eight innings, scattered eight hits, allowed two runs and struck out seven.
The Falcons collected 17 hits in the first game, all of which were singles. Fulmer went 3-for-5 with a run scored and he knocked in three runs. Slaid also went 3-for-5 but he scored two runs and drove in two more. Pablo Martell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and he collected three runs batted in. Thompson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two more driven in.
Justin Ratte (1-4) took the loss on the hill for the Saints. He lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowed 11 hits and 10 runs.
Andrew Brodbeck singled, doubled and scored a run.
Chace Mitchell and
Joe Post each collected two singles.

In the nightcap, Montevallo plated four runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings en route to the 14-6 win.
Martell and Cody White hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the second and Fulmer followed White with a two-run single as Montevallo jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead.
Montevallo added another run in the third and then erupted for four runs in the fourth, three of those runs came off the bat of Vinny Rodriguez who hit a bases clearing double.
Traling 13-2, Flagler tried to make a dent in the deficit. The Saints scored four in the sixth inning to make the score 13-6.
Jake Hanson belted a two-run home run in the inning, his second home run of the game.
Josh Clemen (2-2) tossed 5 2/3 innings, scattered 11 hits and allowed six runs, but struck out four to get the win for the Falcons. Jake Christensen pitched a scoreless 3 1/3 innings to earn his first save of the year.
Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and he drove in five runs. Fulmer went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI. White singled three times, drove in a run and scored four times. Thompson singled three times and scored two runs.
Danny Brown (1-3) tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowed 15 hits and 13 runs. The Saints used five different pitchers.
Brett Moreland hit three singles and drove in a run. Hanson hit two home runs and drove in three runs.
Lee Hart singled twice.
The same two teams meet tomorrow at noon CDT.
