Jake Brandenberger tossed a complete game and fanned six as Flagler defeated Georgia College on Sunday.

Saints use six-run fifth to rally past Bobcats, 8-4

Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College used a six-run fifth inning to rally past Georgia College for the 8-4 victory in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Flagler took the three-game series and improved to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College falls to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Georgia College took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth after Cody Maas' three-run home run.

The Saints answered by sending 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on five hits and were aided by an error.

Andrew Brodbeck and Mitch Okey hit back-to-back one-out singles and Jake Jacob followed by drawing a walk to load the bases. Joe Post hit a grounder to Bobcat third baseman Jeremy Donaldson. His throw to the plate was wide and allowed both Brodbeck and Okey to score and the Saints trailed 4-3. Tyler Vanover followed with a single to score Jacob from third to tie the game. With runners on the corners, Brett Moreland singled up the middle to give the Saints the lead, and Vanover moved to third. Jake Hanson singled home Vanover and that would chase starting pitcher Justin Blue (2-2) from the game after starting Nick Kranick with a 2-0 count. Reliever Christian Bragg tossed two more balls to Kranick to load the bases. Chace Mitchell capped the inning with a sacrifice fly and the Saints held a 7-4 lead.

Jake Brandenberger (4-0) tossed Flagler's first complete game of the season as he scattered eight hits, allowed four runs, walked four and struck out six. After the fifth inning, he allowed only one player to reach scoring position.

Hanson singled twice, scored a run and drove in another. Brodbeck and Okey each singled twice. Those two combined to go 4-for-8, scored three runs with one RBI out of the Nos. 8-9 holes.

Blue tossed 4 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits and five earned runs.

Ryan Sabalaskey singled twice, scored a run and drove in another for the Bobcats. Clay Ardeseer and Chris McCoy each had a single.

Flagler will take on Edward Waters College on Tuesday (Feb. 26) at 7 p.m. at The Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville.
