2/23/2013 11:01:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College and Georgia College split a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday at Drysdale Field. The Saints won the opener 13-12, in 10 innings, as they rallied from a 7-1 deficit. The Bobcats responded in game two with a 19-6 rout.

Flagler is now 8-7 on the season and is 1-4 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College moves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

In the opener, Nick Kranick hit a pinch hit two-run home run in the sixth inning to close the gap to 8-6 and then hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 10th to win the game for Flagler.

The Saints trailed the Bobcats 7-1 after three and one-half innings. Shaun Starnes woke up the bats with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth and Flagler trailed 7-3.

Georgia College plated a run in the sixth to go ahead 8-3, but Flagler scored a run on a groundout and Kranick followed with his pinch hit home run to bring the Saints to within two runs.

Flagler completed the rally in the seventh. Brett Moreland led off with a single and Tyler Vanover followed with a double. Jay Laurienzo continued the hit parade off of Bobcat reliever Daniel Szathmary with a run-scoring single. That knocked Szathmary out of the game, with the Bobcats leading 8-7 with runners on the corners. Christian Bragg came on and got Chace Mitchell to ground out and Vanover scored to tie the game. After a single and walk loaded the bases, Starnes singled to center to score Laurienzo and Flagler took its first lead, 9-8.

Undaunted, Georgia College knotted the game 9-all in the top of the eighth after a Jeremy Donaldson RBI-double.

The Bobcats added two more in the top of the ninth to take an 11-9 lead. Jordan Brooks (0-1), the fourth Georgia College pitcher of the game, came in to finish the game. Jake Hanson greeted him with a one-out solo home run to cut the deficit to 11-10. Andrew Brodbeck walked, Starnes hit a single and Kranick singled to load the bases. Joe Post lined out to center field and pinch runner Jake Jacob scored the game-tying run.

Jake Sandlin hit a lead-off home run in the 10th, but that was all the offense the Bobcats could muster.

Vanover led off Flagler's half of the 10th by being hit by a pitch. He stole second and two batters later, Mitchell hit a double to left-center and Vanover scored the tying run. Hanson was intentionally walked after seeing three consecutive balls. Two batters later, Starnes got hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Kranick smashed the first pitch he saw deep into the left-center gap and pinch runner Justin Ratte scored the winning run.

Jake Brandenberger (3-0), the fifth pitcher used by the Saints, was credited with the win and did not have to throw a pitch in the game. He came on in relief in the 10th with a runner at first base. Brandenberger picked off the runner to end the inning.

Hanson finished 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and scored three runs. Starnes went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in. Kranick went 3-for-4 with the home run and he drove in three runs. Laurienzo collected three singles, scored a run and drove in another. Vanover doubled twice and scored two runs.

Flagler pounded out a season-high 22 hits and scored a season-high 13 runs. The 22 hits by the Saints were the most by the club in a game since collecting 23 hits against Saint Xavier University on Mar. 5, 2010.

Brooks took the loss on the hill for the Bobcats. In one and two-thirds innings of relief, he allowed five hits and four runs.

Donaldson led Georgia College's offense with a 4-for-6 day. He doubled, homered, scored three runs and drove in three runs.
