Jay Laurienzo and
Chace Mitchell helped pace a 15-hit attack as Flagler College rolled to an 8-1 win over Florida Tech in a non-conference baseball game at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field Tuesday night.
Flagler extended its winning streak to five games and improved to 7-2. Tonight's game was the first road game for the Saints. Florida Tech falls from the ranks of the unbeaten and drop to 6-1.
Laurienzo went 4-for-4 with a double and knocked in a run while Mitchell went 3-for-4 with a double and he scored a run.
Jake Hanson singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in a run while
Brett Moreland singled twice and scored twice.
Jake Brandenberger (2-0) came on in relief of starter
Mike O'Reilly in the third inning and went on to pitch 3 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory. He allowed only three hits and struck out two batters.
Tyler Ward and
Beau Beaudreau finished the game for the Saints.
Five different Panthers collected singles. Tyler Doughty drove in Florida Tech's lone run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
GJ Strauss (0-1) made his first appearance on the hill for the Panthers and lasted 3 1/3 innings and took the loss. He scattered eight hits , allowed three earned runs and struck out three batters. Strauss was one of six different pitchers used by Florida Tech.
Flagler will open the Peach Belt Conference season this weekend against Lander University starting with a doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 16) at 1 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
