AIKEN, S.C. – Christina Alessi recorded a match-high 21 kills and added five total blocks as Palm Beach Atlantic University rallied to upset No. 15 (AVCA Division II) Flagler College 3-2 (29-31, 18-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-10) in a non-conference volleyball match at the USC Aiken Invitational Friday afternoon.
PBA improved to 4-2 on the season while Flagler suffered its first defeat and dropped to 3-1.
Mariela Quesada added 19 kills and 16 digs for the Sailfish while Faith Rohn chipped in with 10 kills and 12 digs. Becca Acevedo also recorded a double-double with 57 assists and 12 digs. Melissa Buckingham collected 22 digs.
Dianna Craine led the Saints with 13 kills and nine digs.
Casey Gnann collected a match-high 27 digs while
Amelia Morgan tallied 20 assists.
Rachel Stacy and
Sophie Meyer added five and four total blocks, respectively.
Flagler was held to a .094 hitting percentage. The Saints recorded 21 kills in the first two sets but were limited to 21 kills in the final three sets.
Palm Beach Atlantic committed 15 service errors, but posted a .375 hitting percentage in fifth set.
Flagler will take on Nova Southeastern University at 5 p.m. in another match-up of former Florida Sun Conference rivals.
