Flagler took the first set 25-22 and hit a blistering .405 with 18 kills and only three errors on 37 swings. Taylor led the Saints with six kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Stacy recorded five kills and hit a sizzling .714. After a Jackie Neff kill cut Flagler's lead to 19-18, the Saints would reel off the next three points and go on to take the set.
In the second set, Tampa took advantage of three straight miscues to open a 7-4 lead and never look back in a 25-22 win. Patrick tallied 12 assists for the Spartans.
The third set was hotly contested as there were seven ties and three lead changes. The Saints had built a 19-12 lead which forced Tampa to burn its second timeout. The Spartans scored 10 consecutive points to grab a 22-19 lead. Flagler broke the first set point on a kill by Taylor, and followed by getting another point from a Tampa error to pull to within one point, 24-23. However, Selkridge put away the final point for the Spartans.
In the fourth set, Tampa hit .341 with 18 kills and three errors on 44 swings en route to a 25-21 win. Patrick recorded a double-double in the set with 13 assists and 11 digs. Despite Tampa's high hitting percentage, Flagler led early 10-7. But an 8-3 run by the Spartans wiped out the lead and gave Tampa a 15-13 lead. A Taylor kill just a short time later tied the match at 15-all, but the Spartans surged ahead again with five consecutive points with Neff supplying three kills in the run.
Flagler returns to action on Friday (Sept. 21) against Palm Beach Atlantic University at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
