Emilee Taylor's match-high 19 kills and 16 digs were not enough as Augusta State University defeated Flagler College 3-2 (16-25, 25-19, 30-28, 24-26, 15-12) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse..
Augusta State improved to 17-12 overall and 5-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its two-match winning streak snapped and fell to 17-8 overall and 9-1 in conference play. The loss also snapped an 18-match regular season conference winning streak.
Dianna Craine added 18 kills and 21 digs while
Sophie Meyer tacked on 13 kills and hit .478 with just two errors on 23 swings.
Rachel Stacy chipped in with 13 kills, six digs and four total blocks. She hit .387 with one error on 31 swings.
Amelia Morgan recorded a double-double with a season-high 62 assists and 10 digs.
Casey Gnann collected a career-high 41 digs which also broke Flagler's Division II record of 40 digs in a match by Liz Moyer (Aug. 25, 2007) against the University of West Georgia.
Mandy Irizarry recorded a double-double for Augusta State with 16 kills and 12 digs. Kristen Koch came off of the bench to add 16 kills. Jenna Keeler added 15 kills and four total blocks while Katie Beresford tacked on 10 kills and five total blocks. Krystin Wahlig tallied 56 assists and completed the double-double with 22 digs. Andria Tagarelli collected 40 digs.
In the opening set, a Stacy kill broke a 6-all tie and sparked a 4-0 run by the Saints and they never trailed again in a 25-16 win. Flagler hit .244 in the set and held Augusta State to a .083 hitting percentage.
The Jaguars opened the second set on a 13-4 run, but Craine racked up three consecutive kills and an attack error by the Jaguars tied the set at 20-all. But Koch wrapped up the set with four-straight kills to square the match at 1-apiece.
The third set saw 11 ties and four lead changes, but the Jaguars prevailed 30-28.
Flagler fought back from a 15-7 deficit in the fourth set and took a 17-16 lead after a Meyer kill. The Saints built a 21-17 lead, but the Jaguars chipped away and tied the set 23-all after a double-block by Paige Tuttle an Keeler. But in the end, it was kills by Morgan and Stacy that broke a 24-all tie and gave Flagler a 26-24 win to tie the match at two sets apiece.
In the fifth and final set, Stacy had a kill to tie the set at 12-all, but kills by Keeler and Koch gave Augusta State match point and Beresford and Wahlig blocked Craine's attempt to end the match.
Flagler will look to re-group at the University of Montevallo tomorrow at 1 p.m. Central.
