ST. AUGUSTINE –
Emilee Taylor recorded a match-high 18 kills and tacked on 10 digs to help lead Flagler College to a 3-2 (25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11) win over Armstrong Atlantic State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball match Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler extended its win streak to six matches and improved to 12-6 overall and is the lone undefeated team in the Peach Belt with a 5-0 record. Armstrong had its nine-match winning streak snapped and fell to 17-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Taylor recorded her eighth double-double of the season and added three total blocks to her line.
Dianna Craine notched her ninth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 16 digs for the Saints.
Abby Meyers added nine kills and six total blocks while
Rachel Stacy and
Sophie Meyer each tallied eight kills. Stacy hit .667 for the match with 12 errorless swings. She added four total blocks.
Casey Gnann led the defense with 21 digs and
Amelia Morgan tallied 49 assists.
Ashley Seal, the PBC Specialist of the Week, recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 21 assists. Jessica Santaniello added 11 kills for the Pirates. Brittany Wolf supplied nine kills and five total blocks. Megan Pando tallied 17 assists and Abby Winsor collected a team-high 13 digs.
The Saints opened the match with an 8-1 run and went on to win the opening set 25-18. Flagler hit .300 (13 kills, four errors, 30 swings) while Armstrong struggled hitting .029 (8-7-34).
Armstrong opened the second set with a 7-3 run and Carina Marinho scored the last two points with a pair of aces. The Saints battled back to tie the score 10-all on a Pirate attack error, and then took the lead for good on a double-block by Stacy and Taylor. Flagler won 25-16.
In the third set, a service error by
Caitlyn Kovach started a 4-0 run by Armstrong and the Pirates never relinquished the lead winning 25-23.
The Pirates used that momentum going into the fourth set. Back-to-back attack errors by the Saints gave the Pirates a 17-15 lead. Following a kill by Craine to cut the deficit for Flagler to 19-17, Armstrong rattled off the next four points to take a 23-17 lead and went on to win 25-18 to force a fifth and deciding set.
The Prates held a 7-4 lead after a hitting error by the Saints, but Flagler reeled of the next four-of-five points to tie the set 8-all. Later, Morgan's ace tied the set at 10-all and Taylor followed with a block and a kill to give Flagler a 12-10 lead. Stacy, Craine and Meyer followed with consecutive kills to close out the set in a 15-11 win.
Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Friday (Oct. 12) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
